Generation 1 was none other than a daily journal to keep track of ambitions, thoughts, and ideas. But was enough to deliver confidence, clarity, and sense of purpose. The process of keeping journals day-over-day and year-over-year was in itself rewarding.
Generation 2 tools were more deliberate and offered a process of setting objectives and planning ways to achieve them at the start of the year. Then allowed us to journal progress over the course of the year to know where we stand. Although it wasn’t much, but re-reading objectives & progress and the experience in trying to achieve them, was effective in gradually building towards future plans!
Generation 3 tools are enabling data-driven & near-realtime self-tracking! This is where we at now. This is because gen-3 tools collect, analyze and output structured data in real-time! Here there’s much more clarity as a direct result of the analysis performed on the data collected, but not necessarily from the journal text.
What’s next? Generation 4 set of tools have an opportunity to focus on implementing similar analyses against both: Journal Text + Captured Data.
