    about me

    In 20 secs

    I write software & blogs.

I spent 7 years learning to code, design, & sell.

You can find a selection of my thoughts on this microblog.

Posts about tech, mindfulness, note-taking, & mental models.

    Currently working on https://hyperspaces.live/.

    In depth

I don't do things to become someone. I don't code to become a software engineer, design UIs to become a designer, write stuff to become a writer, or start a startup to become an entrepreneur. I just want to execute on my higher goals and have fun along the way.

Topics I'm actively exploring right now are spirituality, philosophy (stoicism), self-tracking, and micro-saas.

Note-taking is central to everything I do. March 2021 I enrolled in the BASB course, since then, I have been adopting the practice of keeping a Personal Knowledge Management System.

October 2019 I started a google sheet in which I track everything about myself. I was doing it out of curiosity rather than need. Later on I would discover that Quantified Self is an online movement, where people aim to make full use of their data to understand themselves — which later inspired my to build my own data pipelines and automate my tracking.

August 2021 I learned how to use Final Cut Pro X. Since then I've been using it to create travel reels from shots I take. Something I'd definitely do more of if I have the time, although I expect AI to create human-grade reels over the next few years.

I'm a firm believer everything is connected. And this has become the underlying premise behind everything I create, write or think of. Memories, thoughts, people & places are dots on your life timeline, all of which are intrinsically connected.

Weightlifting represents 80% of my physical exercise during the week. I started a bulk journey on June 2020, through which I went from 66kgs to 74kgs by end of summer 2022. I wrote a guide for everything I wish I knew when I started, along with a nutrition cheatsheet I still personally use.

I use this website to document one photo a day. Enables me to time-travel with ease.

I use this website to write down transient ideas that do not have to be polished.

I believe one day, these thoughts & photo grids will be all what's left of me.

    My Work

    ‣

    2018

    Summary

    💡
Worked on Scene Recognition from LiDAR data to build classifiers for self-driving cars as part of my research at AvidBeam, a Computer Vision startup based in Maadi, Egypt. This was during the summer following submitting my graduation project, I wrote about my experience there in an old blogpost.

    Role

    💡
    • Used a network called VoxelNet created by engineers at Apple to perform object detection & classification in urban environments. It was able to successfully identify cars, pedestrians, & cyclists with an accuracy of 92%+.

    • Preprocessed, visualized & parsed several LiDAR datasets with thousands of data points in 3D imagery (KITTI, Stanford, etc)

    ‣

    2019

    Summary

    💡
Joined the Data Science team at Moneyfellows, a leading FinTech platform in Egypt. Worked on several projects, learned lots of stuff & built a network. It was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career because I joined them at a very early stage, the team was 15 back then.

    Role

    💡
    • I took part in building an alphanumeric scanner for IDs and wrote its API from scratch. We used Computer Vision to OCR and auto-verify any uploaded National ID on the spot inside the app.

    • Used Mixpanel to set up a behavioral analytics pipeline. This was done through building funnels and cohorts that provided insights about user onboarding, conversion and retention. They were used by both teams, product and marketing, to assess product features and marketing strategies.

    • Used Tableau to turn business-specific data into dashboards and visualized reports. This provided real-time insights about the company's KPIs and overall business health to product heads and executives.

    ‣

    2020

    Summary

    💡
    • Led a tight Computer Vision team at Nodogoro Labs, a software agency based in Los Angeles, to build an in-house Painting Robotic Artist. The robot takes in a digital image of a human & paints a detailed portrait of them over 12 hours. We were responsible for the software part bottom-up.

    • Part-timed with Backlot Studio, a YC-backed company (Spring 2020) creating a 3D tool for film-makers. I was working on handling their infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform.

    ‣

    2021

    Summary

    💡
Was part of the Data Science team at Faves Social Network from July 2021 till June 2022. We were building AI that analyzes trends, ranks your favorite content & connects you with interesting people: https://faves.media/

    Role

    💡
    • End-to-end ML Dev & Ops engineering

    • Handling microservice architecture & deployment to GCP

    • Writing & maintaining APIs with FastAPI

    ‣

    2022/23

    💡
    • In 2022 I started https://deepiris.co/ – A product studio based in Cairo. Then launched a product with a couple friends that proceeded to be accepted in one of Africa’s biggest accelerators. • Jan 2023 I started a SaaS product https://hyperspaces.live/ – Working on bringing time-travel to everyone in a few years time.
