I first learned review as a system in the context of note-taking.
Later I found out the concept is extensible to all areas of life.
Example of reviews I frequently do include: Spotify playlists, computer file directories, browser tabs, photos on my phone, etc and the list goes on but I’m essentially addressing the kind of systems that might break if you don’t review from time to time.
Breaking means a system reaches a point where it’s no longer useful.
I’ve come to realize that “review is an integral part for most systems to remain functional”.
Without a review, there’s really no system. You almost can’t auto-pilot any system if it weren’t for the review step.
And if you think about it that’s what “journaling” really is, to your life.
You pause, you reflect back & write down updates & findings. Journaling only helps because of the fact that it lets you get your thoughts sorted, i.e review.
Having a review step in place and figuring out how to do it, when to do it, and how often, is going to help keep your systems as useful as possible.
