Today at the cafe I was having a chat with my 24-y/o friend.
Heard us across the table was a 42-y/o man whom we knew later was a business person.
He swiftly joined the conversation and gave us some quick tips from someone who has been at it for 15 years:
- Big part of building successful businesses is how & when to say “No”
- Opportunities are everywhere; opportunities spawn opportunities
- Capitalize on your resources (degree, family business & network)
- Try to work at an intersection between what you can offer & what you like to do everyday
- Get married early on; marriage is protection, a psychological & physiological protection
- Don’t attempt to run more than 2 businesses in parallel
- Most successful people I know operate in one of these industries: Real Estate, Tech or Food & Beverage
- Don’t aim to do everything yourself, outsource & delegate when you can, otherwise you’ll burnout sooner than you might think
- Prioritize balance over growth: Lots of people sacrifice their social life, family time & close friends to build successful businesses, only to come later to find none of those things – a point where all success is just not worth it
