  • the emphasis on storytelling has been recently everywhere - when i think about that for a minute, it has to be like this for a reason - so what’s the reason?
    • startup pitches have been about stories - how do you tell your story? oftentimes it’s not about the business pitch and more about the emotion your story triggers - is it thrill, is it intrigue, is it belongingness, is it repulsion? it’s always something - if there’s a story, there’s an emotion
  • i think it’s hard to wrap our heads around the fact that we probably know less than 1% of the stories of even the closest people to us
    • my childhood friend has been alive for 29 years, that’s more than 10,000 days - my memory probably holds highlights from their lives that include their graduation, their first job, or their first breakup, and that barely covers a 100 days in total, which is 0.01%
    • how does it feel like to imagine that everyone you meet is an entire universe with an infinite timeline that even if you talk for hours you would have barely scratched the surface? i think magical
    • 20 years are 7,300 days, or 7,300 stories
  • i think Humanness play an important role in decisions we make (rephrase) - and even when we might not know it, this is almost always true
    • established investors don’t invest in founders or businesses based on just numbers - oftentimes it’s also about the emotion triggered when they first pitched, which is based on the story.
      • is it thrill, is it intrigue, is it belongingness, is it repulsion? it’s always something - if there’s a story, there’s an emotion.
      • when you know that most deals close over the the most random settings like over coffee or a walk, you start to notice the importance of ‘vibing’ - even in the most professional contexts
    • that’s why there’s currently lots of emphasis on storytelling
      • if you know how to tell a story, you probably got a superpower under your belt
